Library at middle school level is a study hall. This is a great chance for students to get a chunk of homework done so that their evenings are a little more free. To that end, we observe a strict quiet time to provide a quality work zone. Near the end of class, time for group work will be granted if the class as a whole can maintain a volume level 1. Otherwise, group work will not be allowed since this becomes disruptive to the five classes and two offices that border the library. Please talk with your student about the importance of being considerate.
Students who do not have homework are expected to get a book and read quietly so that they do not disrupt the students that are still working. We have lots of books available. Students are allowed to get up and get a book at any time unless they are safe seated or told to return to their seat for violating library rules.
One project many teachers assign is the “Current Events” project. For this project, students are encouraged to cut out an article and turn it in with the report. If you have any science, technology, historical, or political magazines or newspapers you could donate, would you consider donating them? They need to be recent editions, no more than 3 months old, in order to qualify for the assignment so please consider donating throughout the year.
