This author has put together a great book trailer on line at the link below: http://www.calexanderlondon.com/books/group/accidental-adventures
1L & 1P had a swashbuckling time today reading Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies. 2L laughed through My Haunted House by Angie Sage. In 4B, several students used the time to work on a computer project. The kids who were further ahead got to enjoy a quiet time to browse and read in the reading area.
3C -- We read Milo: Sticky Notes & Brain Freeze. This is a poignant book on par with Diary of a Wimpy Kid, only the main character has slightly more of a commendable view on life, thought he's still just a kid trying to make sense of the world he lives in. 5M -- We continued our reading of Inkheart. We won't finish by the end of the year, but hopefully the kids are hooked enough to try and read through the rest of the story over the summer. Every week we get closer to the end.
Ms. Judy/Ms. Surface Kindergarten: We read The Shelf Elf by Jackie Mims Hopkins. During this time of year we are getting ready for first grade when students will be allowed to find books off the shelf. Last week, we learned about red tabs and todays story focused on how we keep the shelves in order and the books in good shape. The story included red tabs but called them shelf markers.
4R -- We read Apple-y Ever After from the Princess School series. This is a great fairy-tale spinoff series for this age group. There are several books in the series and they don't have to be read in order. That is perfect when a group of girls all want to check out the books at the same time. 2L squeezed in a little library time after reconciliation. 1L & 1P We began reviewing the sections of the library in preparation for their first Scavenger Hunt day next week. On Scavenger Hunt Day, I pass out lists of call letters and the kids have to find the book and author that it matches. 4R squeezed in a little time to check out books today. They've been off on field trips this week and didn't get their usual library time, but the teacher and I wanted to make sure they had a chance to check out books. 4B -- Today we talked about the sections of the library and the Dewey Decimal system. Then we went on a Scavenger Hunt around the library. Each student gets a list that matches at least one other student's list. Using call numbers and spine labels, they have to find their team and then find the titles to This has been a favorite activity the last several years and the kids once more enjoyed it. It was nice to see how much 4th grade remembered from the last 2 years! Kindergarten worked on learning to use the Red Tabs. Red Tabs are our shelf markers and learning to use them is an important step toward the independence of 1st grade. It means that they will be able look through the shelves next year to check out books. I can't believe our year is almost over!
